I am happy to announce that there will be a small article on myself and the web site in 20-20’s most recent newsletter. I guess that they now finally feel I am not a threat to their organization! Please e-mail me any comments you have about the article.

I am still awaiting my copy of the new version 6.06, and am still puzzled about the mysterious non-release of version 6.1 - which was supposed to have been released the summer of 2001! I have heard through the grape vine that 20-20 was having some serious problems with some of the new features in 6.1, but I have not been updated (nor have I asked) directly by anyone at 20-20.

Windows XP:  Several users have reported that XP Pro would not read the security key for 20-20. The latest word on the work-around for that is to install the NT drivers for 20-20. I am using XP Home version at my home - and have not had any difficulties so far, other than having a bad video driver which was initiating  the infamous error reporting utility in XP. I still wonder if Microsoft is actually even looking at those errors. There must be a huge cyber-waste bin out there somewhere where all those error reports are going.

I have updated the custom texture catalog and it is available for download here. Please be sure and read the detailed installation instructions. The file size is over 5 MB including the new textures.

I just returned from K-BIS, the international kitchen and bath show in Orlando. It was as huge as ever, with many vendors from all over the world. 20-20 conducted seminars for users and spent time training for 6.0. They introduced 6.1 which should be ready for release later this summer or fall. (Look for it this winter :-) ). Version 6.1 will have better support for multiple drawings among other things.

Service pack 3 for Version 6.0 is available for download on 20-20’s web site. You are   encouraged to reinstall all your catalogs after installing the update. It is supposed to be more   stable than GR2 and contains fixes for well over 100 bugs. You can get it here

I was told by 20-20 that they are now focusing entirely on cleaning up Version 6.0. This will shift the focus away from new features for the time being, but we should be able to expect a stable program as a result. I, for one, was very glad to hear this. Version 6 already has a reputation for being unstable and full of glitches, and I don’t think 20-20 has done themselves a favor by pushing Version 6 on us in it’s present unstable state. I was told that the next general release will be available in late April.

General Release #2 (GR2) should soon be replaced by the next general release. I am holding my breath and hoping for a more stable program. I have a love-hate relationship going with version 6 right now. I appreciate some of the new features, but am annoyed by the crashes and bugs. If you are running into problems please sound off in the users forum.

I played around with the virtual showroom feature in version 6 GR2 this past week and found that it is very impressive. It creates a quick-time movie file which can easily be emailed to a client or viewed in your showroom. Your client can actually move the mouse and examine their kitchen or bath from any angle they prefer. I am definatly going to use this render option.

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything here. I’ve been waiting for the latest release of Version 6 (GR2) and it has finally arrived. There is some discussion of it on the users forum. Also, if any of you use Chief Architect for general remodeling, their new release (7.0) is now ready to ship. The rendering capabilities are incredible.

20-20 “On the Road” seminars are now going on in different areas across the USA. I am pleased about 20-20 taking this initiative, but if you are anything other than a beginner you may not want to spend your time. Read more here...

Next Wednesday I am going to a training seminar hosted by 20-20 in Columbus, Ohio. I am looking forward to that and will give you all an update. The seminar focuses entirely on Version 6.0. For those of you wanting my custom textures for version 5.2, I will make them available on a CD-ROM for a small fee. 5.2 will not read JPEG files (which are very small in size - used in V6.0) so the file size would be too large to download from my site. Let me know if you want the CD-ROM with 5.2 textures.

Sept. 17, 2000

I updated some of the info on version 6.0 after Denis from 20-20 support gave me a couple tips. I have noticed that there have been a few “lookers” at the 2020 User’s Group forum. Please join and take part in the discussions so that this can be a helpful site to share knowledge.

I have added a new “How-To” section in the Tips & Tricks page and will continue to add more items. If you have any requests that you would like to see added here, just e-mail me with your request.

Aug. 26, 2000

I just finished the tutorial on adding your own textures in version 5.2. You can also remove unwanted default textures to reduce the amount of one-click scrolling required to find the texture you want.

Aug. 23, 2000

Instructions are now completed for adding your own textures in version 6.0. I hope someone will actually get some use from this information. I am also going to start a rendering competition on this site - I think it will be fun to have you submit your best rendering and post them for everyone to see.

I have started a 20-20 user group on Dephi. Please join and make this an active community of 20-20 users sharing information and ideas. Take a look

I have the texture catalog ready for download for Version 6.0. You can get it here. It has a nice selection of wood textures as well as wall, floor, tile, and cultered marble.

Aug. 12, 2000

I am working on a set of textures with corresponding 20-20 menus which you will be able to download from this site. This will assure that you will not inadvertantly goof something up if trying the edits yourself (especially in version 6.0). These should be posted in a week or less.

Aug. 8, 2000

I have been forcing myself to use 6.0 on the last couple kitchen designs I’ve done. It is hard to spend the extra time that it takes since time is such a precious commodity. I could produce these designs along with renderings in half the time with 5.2 because I am so familiar with it, but I am discovering a lot of very nice features in 6.0 which will prove to be a great advantage over 5.2 once I am totally up to speed. Read on here...  New Features of 6.0

In version 5.2, I discovered early on how to add my own textures and have them appear for selection in the textures menu. Here are instructions on this site so that you can do the same. It simply involves editing the $default.vis file in a text editor, and adding whatever texture bitmaps you wish in the textures folder.

In version 6.0, I had to do some more digging to discover how to do this - but I did find a way. It is a bit more complicated but if you want to know how then click here. 20-20 says they will be coming up with a utility to do this in several months - but who wants to wait?
